Zev Mandelbaum explains why you should invest in Danforth Village
By Lucas on Aug 15, 2016
Newinhomes.com recently had the opportunity to chat with Marlin Spring Developments COO Zev Mandelbaum about their new upcoming development, Canvas Condos in Danforth Village. According to Mandelbaum, a lot of interest was expressed even before a rendering was released - but we’ll let Mandelbaum do the talking:
Newinhomes (NIH): Why is Danforth Village one Toronto's next big up-and-coming areas?
Zev Mandelbaum (ZM): Well, let me correct you - Danforth Village is the next up-and-coming spot. When I look at the east end, I see it as a place where residential development is going to surge in a big way.
The eclectic atmosphere, convenient retail, the vibrancy, the streetlife - it’s unlike any other area of the city. Transit is so convenient with two subway stops (Main and Woodbine), and a GO station connecting you to the GTA. There’s a Sobeys, a Shoppers, boutique shops, and the best coffee shops I’ve ever been to, from Red Rocket Coffee to Starbucks.
NIH: When we last chatted about the history of Marlin Spring, you mentioned that the more creative developers will control the future of homebuilding. How will your new condo development stand out from the other boutique buildings planned for Danforth?
ZM: Canvas Condominium is going to stand out for many reasons. First of all, we have over 200 feet of frontage on Danforth and other new buildings have only about 100 feet, which means their units are deeper and darker. The suites at Canvas Condominium will be full of natural light all day thanks to the building design.
Plus, we worked with Graziani + Corazza Architects, Nak Design, and award-winning interior design firm U31 to bring together the ultimate project in quality and design.
NIH: Can you tell us a bit more about the Canvas Condominium building design?
ZM: The building's an eight-storey profile, terraced at the back. It will bring a really fresh taste to the Danforth. There’s dark brick along the bottom and metal panelling and lighter colours on the sides. On the ground floor, there’s street retail, an ideal location for a new coffee shop. The spacious terraces and balconies will have incredible views of the city’s skyline and the lake. The building will mimic a tapestry the way the exterior weaves and is coloured like different fabrics.
NIH: What amenities will Canvas Condominium have?
ZM: On the ground floor, there will be a fitness centre, yoga studio, pet wash, meeting room, party room, and dining room with a catering kitchen. There will also be a rooftop terrace with barbecue stations, fireplaces, bocce ball, and sundeck.
NIH: Are there any opportunities for first-time buyers at Canvas Condominium?
ZM: Absolutely. What's great about Danforth Village is the value. Here, you're able to purchase a unit in the mid $200,000s. That’s unheard of in other parts of Toronto that have transit and eclectic neighbourhood amenities we have here. We've already had a tremendous response with registrations and many of them are interested first-time buyers.
NIH: There are obviously options for singles and couples. Will there be layout options for families looking for the condo lifestyle?
ZM: There’s a really good mix. There's a lot of singles, couples, and families in Danforth Village, and our suites really cater to that. Some have really large terraces. There’s one that reaches approximately 600 square feet; that’s like a whole other living space.
I think that Danforth Village is not only the best place to live because of its amenities, it is also the best place to invest. Year-over-year prices have increased so dramatically, making our units staring from the mid $200s on the Danforth an amazing opportunity!
