You’ve Never Seen Townhomes Like The Tree House

Recently, Symmetry Developments released new renderings of The Tree House, a new townhome community planned for Toronto. Needless to say, The Tree House is easily one of the most distinct residential proposals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), potentially even all of southern Ontario.
The Tree House will feature 37 townhomes in three blocks (rows), which are separated by courtyards. Each block will be comprised of different units types. Block A will have stacked townhomes with expansive rooftop terraces, as well as 17’ loft towns with garden patios. Block B will feature single-storey loft towns with 12’ ceilings and garden patios, and more stacked towns with rooftop terraces. Block C will house the larger, three-storey towns with a mix of patios and rooftop terraces. The towns will range from 880 to 1,550 square feet and will feature minimum two bedrooms. Prices will start in the $400,000s.

This is the first Toronto project for Winnipeg-based firm 5468796 Architecture. They recently won a Governor General Award and are well known nationally for their innovative designs.
The design of The Tree House is so aggressively distinct that it almost challenges the mere idea of the traditional townhome. Abandoning peaked roofs, bay windows, and even brick, The Tree House is unnaturally natural. That is to say, it differs from the norm, but in a logical manner that coincides with progressive home design tactics. The glass cubes, bold lines, and use of wood, metals, and composites will serve as a breath of fresh air for Toronto’s streetscape (if this is the design that is actually approved by the City).
“I have yet to see a multi-unit low-rise development quite like this and hope it inspires other developers to explore innovative design directions,” said Sayf Hassan of Symmetry.
Symmetry is experimenting with different colours for the exterior of The Tree House. There is the brownish red version that they released to the world last week, and there are also gray and white versions. Which do you prefer?

The Tree House will be located at Gerrard Street East and Victoria Park in the increasingly popular Birch cliff neighbourhood. All the necessary amenities like schools, grocery stores, and transit options are available in the area, and soon it will have one of the GTA’s most interestingly designed townhome communities!
Stay tuned, we’ll be keeping a close eye on The Tree House as the application process continues.
