What Do You Think of the Sail Condos Design?
By Lucas on Jun 19, 2015
Looks like another signature condo design has been planned for the City of Toronto! OPEARL Developments just released the first rendering of their new development, Sail Condominiums, which will rise at the corner of Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East.
Designed by Keith Loffler McAlpine Architects, Sail Condos will rise 18 storeys and boast a stunning yet familiar design. Inspired by a yacht sailing on the open sea, Sail Condos embodies luxury living. Having a curved facade resembling a sail, it is difficult not to compare the design to Daniel Libeskind’s L-Tower at Yonge and Front in Toronto, since it is the only other tower in Toronto with this shape.
This sail-inspired aesthetic lends itself to luxury designs. For example, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai is considered the world’s only 7-star hotel. It opened in 1999 and was designed by Tom Wright of WKK Architects. Another example is the Trump Hotel and Tower Baku in Baku, Azerbaijan. This tower and hotel features luxury residences and guestrooms, and stands 33 storeys. Trump actually loves his sail-inspired buildings, with another one of their hotels in Panama featuring a giant sail shaped facade right on the water, rising 70 storeys.
It seems that some of the most popular destinations in the world have these types of buildings, and it’s interesting that Toronto is getting its second. OPEARL Developments has over 40 years of development experience in mainland China and they are now developing in this city. Recently, we celebrated the groundbreaking of another condo by a well known Chinese developer right in the heart of downtown. Toronto is seeing more high-end designs and attention from huge Chinese developers; are these signs of Toronto becoming a more touristy destination? As these new developments near completion over the next few years, where will Toronto stand on the global stage? We think we’re on our way up!
While Sail Condos has a luxurious design, OPEARL Developments is focused on providing affordable luxury options for investors and end-users. Sail Condos will feature a wide array of floor plans ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, with interior designs by the award-winning Gordana Car. Many of the suites will feature balconies, and every suite will have large windows, ensuring that all the living spaces are well lit by natural sunlight throughout the day. When we said affordable luxury, we really meant it. The suites at Sail Condos will start at just $199,900!
Sail Condos will offer a good collection of amenities, including a multi-purpose party room, which will open up to an outdoor landscaped courtyard. There will also be a state-of-the-art fitness centre with cardio, weights, and aerobics equipment.
The neighbourhood also offers a wide range of amenities, including shopping malls, parks, major banks, restaurants, and grocery stores. Fairview Mall is only a few minutes away, and the area is peppered with parks, like Wishing Well Park, Vradenburg Park, and Hickorynut Parkette. One of the most necessary neighbourhood amenities that a condo could have is a grocery store within walking distance, and Sail Condos has that. Food Basics is a few steps away, and there are a few specialty markets in the area. Not every condo owner has a car, that’s why it’s important to have the essentials nearby.
For those that do have a car, Highways 401 and 404 are nearby, facilitating travel in all directions, including into the heart of downtown Toronto. If you don’t drive, don’t fret, Don Mills Subway Station is close to Sail Condos, so all the excitement of downtown Toronto is still within reach.
