The Newinhomes.com team recently had the opportunity to meet up with Emilio Tesolin, Mattamy High Rise Division President, and Linda Robinson, Mattamy High Rise Division Vice President, Sales & Marketing, to learn more about their latest high-rise on Lake Ontario, Vita on the Lake. We also went up to the 51st floor of Lago to take in the views of the water, Toronto’s skyline, and the stunning surrounding greenery.
The Vita presentation centre now has a scale model of the 53-storey tower (designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects), as well as new suite vignettes, showcasing two kitchens and a bathroom. Just walking to the presentation centre, we couldn’t believe how much the area has changed.
Emilio Tesolin, Mattamy High Rise Division President
“15 years ago when we first started planning, there was very little here, and what we got now is a community with all the buildings going up around Park Lawn, and the shops and a grocery store - 15 years ago it was all just a dream. I think it’s reflective of where we are as a city,” said Tesolin.
When the first few towers in the Humber Bay area (Park Lawn Road and Lake Shore) were completed, residents had to leave the condo community to run errands, but that is no longer the case.
“The Village Court now has an ice cream shop, a cafe, restaurants, a pub; it’s starting to feel more like a destination,” Tesolin explained. “Before, you had to leave if you wanted to do something, but now if you’re with your friends and you want to watch the baseball game, you want to watch the hockey game, you can meet down at the pub or restaurant.”
“There’s a high end-user rate here for sure; people who want to live on the water and enjoy this lifestyle,” Robinson added. “If you want to live on the waterfront, this is the place. There are a lot of amenities here now, like the grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart, so it’s become its own community. The area is coming alive, it has everything you need.”
The design of Vita on the Lake
With a striking tower like Lago standing right next door, expectations were high for Vita. Tesolin mentioned that when Mattamy first went to the City with their application, the City said that they loved Lago and wanted something similar.
“We took the design elements (from Lago) - the white, black, white, black - and what we did was went with the dark mullions on the inside, and a white slab edge with a not-so-dark balcony to try and make it clean - make it similar but not the same - and give it a lot of the same design cues. The City was really happy when we went back with the design,” Tesolin said.
“Our philosophy down here is simple elegance,” he added. “I sort of liken it to a women's Chanel suit; it’s never out of style and it’s really simple and always fits in. It just looks clean and polished.”
The interiors were designed by U31 and were inspired by both the location and the demands of residents. “Vita means ‘life on the lake’ and we utilized that through decorating the entire building,” Robinson said. “Starting in the lobby, it’s two storeys, very bright, has lots of windows, and it has a very organic, warm feel to it. The look ties into living on the lake. Life is less complicated here than it is in the city.”
A few of the other amenities include an outdoor saltwater pool, a full-size gym with yoga studio and sauna, a party room, a dining room, a billiards room, a sundeck with barbecue stations and entertainment areas, and a guest suite. All of the amenities are on the fifth floor.
In the suites, there are many high end features and finishes, including 9’ ceilings, wide plank low emission laminate flooring, custom designed contemporary kitchens, deep upper cabinets, quartz countertops with a square edge, panelled and stainless steel appliances, and porcelain tile. Every suite also has a balcony.
The suites range from 524 to over 1,500 square feet, with one-bedroom and two-bedroom plans, many with dens. “We’ve got seven other buildings on the waterfront, so when we were designing the suites for Vita, we knew what our customer was looking for,” Robinson said.
