Our Visit to Silverthorn Heights
By Lucas on Aug 29, 2013
Recently, we had the opportunity to visit the Silverthorn Heights site at 55 Ypres Road, near Keele and Eglinton in Toronto. We met with Corey Brown of ICON Homes, who told us a little bit more about the community.
The site of Silverthorn Heights
The site stretches along Ypres Road from Kane to Scott Road. The section of the site closest to Kane currently features a fenced off, unmaintained baseball diamond/soccer field. And on the other side of the school, on the Scott side, there’s just a fenced off parking lot where the teachers used to park.
Brown explained that the Silverthorn Junior Public School was an important piece of history to the neighbourhood, and many of the locals, even some of 40 years and older, remember attending the school. Brown continued, saying that whenever ICON decides to build within an established neighbourhood like this one, they turn to the local community to see how they can best develop the site.
The first community meetings were held about a year ago, where locals shared their input about street names, design, and construction times. Demolition of the school began last July because ICON promised the locals that they would wait until the neighbouring school was out for the year so that the children didn’t have to deal with noise during class and recess.
As you can see from the photos, the school is completely gone and the onsite crew is in the process of clearing the site. Brown said that the construction of the homes is scheduled to begin in March.
About Silverthorn Heights
There will be 43 total units at Silverthorn Heights; seven singles and 36 semis. The singles will occupy a quiet cul-de-sac and the semis will be built around them, as well as line Ypres Road.
The sizes of the semis will range between 1,800 to 2,300 square feet, and the singles will range from roughly 2,300 to 2,500 square feet.

The Priority Preview Event is scheduled for mid September, but only registrants are invited, so register now!
The Grand Opening of Silverthorn Heights is also scheduled for September, but with only 43 homes available, you’re going to want to be at that Priority Preview Event.
It’s not very often that a new low-rise community is built in Toronto near major transit lines, especially along the new Eglinton Crosstown LRT, so we’re predicting a great turnout on opening day.
