Two Luxury Neighbourhoods Connected by New Bridge in Markham

Last weekend, Kylemore Communities, the Stollery family, and the City of Markham celebrated the grand opening of Blackstock Bridge, the only paved connection between the East and West Villages in the master-planned Angus Glen community.
The first to cross the bridge (on golf carts, of course) were the City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Councillor Amanda Collucci, Ratepayers Association president Paul Bourbonniere, Lindsay Stollery, and Patrick O’Hanlon and Frank Spaziani of Kylemore. Media and VIPs were invited for the unveiling of one of four naming plaques on the bridge.
Blackstock Bridge is named after Frank Blackstock Stollery, the grandfather of Arthur Stollery, who purchase the Angus Glen land back in the 1950s. Frank’s father, William, was a homebuilder and entrepreneur who operated primarily in Toronto, and he loaned Frank $1,000 so that he could open his own haberdashery shop at Yonge and Bloor in 1901. The store was named Stollerys, and it was a city landmark and destination point up until its recent sale. The Stollerys building, along with a good chunk of the city block is being demolished to make way for a proposed 80-storey condo.
“We are pleased the bridge is named after Frank in recognition of the Stollery family’s history in home building and entrepreneurship,” says Lindsay Stollery, great-granddaughter of Frank Blackstock Stollery.

Kylemore has been building and developing the Angus Glen community since 1997, taking strategic and precise steps the entire way. Working under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Kylemore completed the project in an efficient, environmentally-friendly manner, making the smallest impact possible on the creek and natural surroundings.
“It has always been in our master-plan to connect the two neighbourhoods by extending Angus Glen Boulevard across the creek,” says Patrick O’Hanlon, president of Kylemore Communities. “We know that the residents will appreciate this new route to get around from home, to parks, shops, the Angus Glen Community Centre, Angus Glen Golf Club and local schools.”
The Angus Glen community features nearly 1,100 homes, a wide selection of parks, shops, restaurants, and of course, the best golfing in the GTA. The notable community has taken home many awards, including the prestigious 2014 Markham Design Excellence Award, and the Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Association’s “Places to Grow Low-rise Community of the Year” Award.
The homes of Angus Glen
Kylemore Communities has some incredible offerings available at Angus Glen. The 6th Angus Glen is under construction, and there is an excellent selection of suites available. At the time of writing this, there are only four 35’ detached homes available in the Parkside East community. There is a collection of 50’ detached homes at Village Gate and, only a handful of large lots for custom homes remains in West Village.
Now that the Blackstock Bridge is complete, Kylemore has connected their East and West communities, facilitating the flow of residents from home to work, to the first tee, to nearby schools, to grocery stores, and all that Markham has to offer. Angus Glen has been a long time in the making, and this is an exciting milestone for Kylemore and all the homebuyers in the community.
If you want to call one of the GTA’s most distinguished and celebrated communities home, then you should definitely visit the Angus Glen sales centre at 285 Angus Glen Boulevard (south of Major MacKenzie Road and west of Kennedy). The sales centre is open Monday to Thursday from 1 pm to 7 pm, weekends and holidays from 11 am to 6 pm, and you can call 905-887-9950 to book an appointment for a Friday visit.
