Tridel and TCHC to Team up Again
By Lucas on Apr 10, 2013
In the past, we have discussed how the marriage between new condominiums and Toronto Community Housing can work perfectly together. Developers and the TCHC have done an excellent job combining new condos and community housing in the same developments. A perfect example is The Daniels Corporation and the TCHC’s efforts in Regent Park.
Tridel and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation
Another developer that has a history of offering excellent social housing options with their projects is Tridel. As we covered recently, Tridel worked with the City to add some social housing to their Ten York project. One development that we have yet to touch on is 1 Adra Villaway, a new project by Tridel, where they will once again partner with the TCHC.
Adra Villaway redeveloped by both Tridel and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation
Adra Villaway is currently a series of low-rise homes owned by the TCHC. Sitting in the Leslie/Sheppard corridor, the area is pretty attractive to would-be homeowners, given its proximity to both transit and green space. Tridel is looking to team with the TCHC in order to redevelop the land.
Tridel submits an application to the City of Toronto
Tridel has recently submitted an application to the City, proposing five new condominium towers, ranging from 10 to 18 storeys - four of which would feature market condominiums, and the other one, TCHC housing. The plan calls for 577 new units, with the TCHC replacing the existing 121 low-rise units with 103 condominium suites and 43 townhome units.
It will be interesting to see how this proposal moves forward. The project is still in the planning phase, but we should receive some new info soon. Stay tuned, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this very exciting development!
