Tribute Communities looks to Church and Carlton
By Lucas on Apr 23, 2013
A well planned tower at the corner of two main streets is the kind of project we like to see. The corner of Church and Carlton is famous for a non-residential landmark, Maple Leaf Gardens, but that may change with Tribute Communities’ latest plan.
Tribute’s plans for 70 Carlton
According to an application submitted to the City of Toronto, Tribute is seeking permission to redevelop 70 Carlton. The site is currently occupied by two low-rise commercial buildings and a parking lot. Tribute hopes to build a new 45-storey condominium with a seven-storey podium. As with most new developments in Toronto, the new community will offer retail and institutional space in the podium. No word yet on the amount of suites comprising the tower.
Yonge and Carlton's transition
It all started when the Toronto Maple Leafs left Maple Leaf Gardens for their new home, the Air Canada Centre. Surface parking lots surrounded Maple Leaf Gardens, but the demand for those lots obviously dwindled after the team changed arenas. Developers like Edilcan took advantage of the prime sites. There was even talk of redeveloping Maple Leaf Gardens into a three tower project, but those plans never materialized. Maple Leaf Gardens is currently serving as a grocery store and athletic centre.Tribute projects in Toronto
Tribute Communities continues to be a key developer in the City of Toronto. They continue construction work on The Residences of RCMI on University, while construction on their College St. project, The College Condominiums on Spadina, is expected to start soon. We are also keeping an eye on their future sites, such as their three-tower project for 2205 Sheppard Ave. East. For more on Tribute Communities and their projects, check out their NewInHomes.com page. We hope to have more on 70 Carlton as information becomes available.
