If you’ve been looking for innovative DIY autumn inspired house ideas, the Toronto Fall Home Show was a mandatory event last weekend. The biannual show united esteemed HGTV celebrities, like The Property Brothers’ Drew and Jonathan Silver (bet you’re sorry you missed out now!) in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary.
Sponsored by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and Scotiabank, the show provided a wealth of information to all those seeking tips and tricks about the industry’s latest innovations and trends in home products and construction materials. With over 300 exhibitors and experts putting on entertaining shows and informative display booths for all homeowners and readily offering professional advice, attendees were even encouraged to bring photographs of their homes to help develop fresh projects.
This year’s show supported the Habitat for Humanity Toronto (Habitat Toronto) non-profit housing organization, who are also celebrating their 25th anniversary at the end of 2013. Habitat Toronto facilitates cooperative efforts between volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership to curtail urban poverty.
As one of the show’s main features this year, Habitat Toronto put on an interactive crowd-pleasing competition for the 2nd annual Upcycle Challenge, named “Unhinged.” Participating celebrity experts and bloggers were provided with 25 doors donated by Habitat Toronto ReStore with the mandate to “source” and “repurpose” these otherwise unappealing doors. Channeling their creative energies, competitors reclaimed these doors as bases for artistic pieces including a cabinet with a built-in wine rack and storage drawer by Chris Palmer and the first place winner, Staci Edwards who designed a sleek, modern chair.
If you missed the show, you definitely missed out on some fall fundamentals! Not to worry though, newinhomes.com will provide you with a month full of DIY activities to keep you from missing a beat!
