Topping off at Canary Park Condos!

Just last week, we headed over to the Canary District in Toronto’s east end to celebrate the topping off of Canary Park Condominiums.

This was a pretty big deal because it is the final building in the Canary District, so Dundee Kilmer did something special. First, the group of media and celebrants toured the two mid-rise towers (11 and 15 storeys) comprising Canary Park Condos.

Jason Lester, President of Dundee Kilmer, “I’m proud to not only announce the topping off of the final building in this important new urban village, but to also share our success in meeting our budget targets and completion milestones.” A master-plan like this can be difficult to organize, but we have to say, we’ve never seen buildings rise this quickly. “This innovative mixed-use community sets a new standard for design, livability and sustainability. We believe the Canary District will attract residents from young families to empty nesters, while inspiring leading businesses for decades to come.”

When we arrived at the top of Canary Park Condos, there was a sheet of fresh concrete and everyone was invited to leave their mark on the community. Handprints, initials, full names, company names - everyone made a unique impression that will be a part of one of Canada’s most important new master-plans.

Canary Park Condos features 437 units and is located along Bayview Avenue, right beside the new 18-acre Corktown Common park, which is now open.

Dundee Kilmer needs to have the buildings ready for the Pan/Parapan American Games, which is one of the reasons construction seems to be flying by. The Canary District will serve as Athlete's Village, where over 10,000 athletes and officials from more than 41 countries will stay during the games.

After the games, Dundee Kilmer predicts that it will be another six months before people can start moving into their new homes. Occupancy is scheduled for April 2016.

Once the Canary District is complete it will feature 808 market units and 253 affordable housing units. Every building is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification. Also planned for the Canary District is a new 82,000 square foot YMCA and a 175,000 square foot satellite campus residence for George Brown College.

Now that Canary Park Condos has topped off, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the community starts quickly taking shape.

Stay tuned - we’ll be following the construction process until the very end!
