The sustainable kitchen: The keys to being greener every day
By Lucas on Feb 01, 2016
For the entire month of February, we’ve decided to zero in on one very special room of the home - the kitchen - specifically on how to have the most sustainable kitchen possible!
As houses and condo units began shifting towards open-concept floor plan designs, the kitchen became more than just a place where your food was stored and prepared. Larger, more open kitchens allowed for islands, creating more storage, prep space, and also became a place for people to congregate.
Today, dinner parties and get togethers in your home most likely revolve around your living and kitchen areas, which are most likely connected without walls or other dividers, assuming you’re living in a low-rise home that was built recently or in a condo building. The kitchen is where you start your day with breakfast, and end it with dinner. It is clearly one of the most important rooms in your home.

So, how can we improve this space? Now that open-concept kitchens are the norm, what is the next phase of kitchen design? We believe that like other functions of the home, sustainability and energy efficiency will become very important in the kitchens of today and tomorrow.
We plan on spending the next few weeks highlighting different ways that your kitchen may change in the near future, how you can make your own changes for the better, and of course, there will be plenty of tips on how to live more sustainably in the kitchen. For example, we will be focusing on how you can reduce the waste you produce in the kitchen, and we’ll be featuring on home renos and upgrades you can make to save energy and money.
Stay tuned - we have a lot of very interesting features headed your way!
