The Minto Westside Market showcases the best of the King West neighbourhood

Last week, we attended the Minto Westside Block Party, which served as the kickoff to the Westside Market that will be located on the site seven days a week!
“Minto Westside is so proud to be co-hosting this event with Scadding Court (Community Centre). We have some amazing vendors and food that’s come out tonight. I hope you have a lot of fun and get to sample all that this amazing neighbourhood has to offer,” announced Amanda Wilson Watkins, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Minto, to the crowd of attendees.

There were live local bands, fashion designers, and food vendors all offering incredible products, serving as the perfect example of the diverse culture that populates King West. The varying cuisines were definitely the best representation of King West’s eclectic scene, with Takoyaki (octopus balls) being served up by Tako Chuen, Tito Ton’s Filipino-Caribbean street food, Dishum Dishum Indian Street Food’s delicious dishes, and much more! Also, there were a couple athletes who participated in the Pan Am Games who addressed the crowd and thanked the community for being a part of the games this year.
“We wanted to do something for the community, and Scadding Court presented some ideas and we decided to partner together for this event,” explained Diane Wallace, Director of Marketing, Minto. “Scadding Court was instrumental in bringing out some of the vendors in the neighbourhood for us and we also set up the Farmer’s Market which is here Mondays and Fridays. We wanted to start building the community now and using the space that we have before we even start construction.”

In between admiring the different dishes and browsing the goods for sale by local artisans, we had a chance to chat with Watkins and Wallace about the condo. “A lot of the people living in the King West area right now have fallen in love with this area for a number of reasons. It’s really the heartbeat of the city,” said Watkins. “We’ve seen quite a good mix of buyers. There’s a good segment of the population who are interested in investing because they know the strength of the King West market. That’s been a big draw. The new rental program has been very well received.”
Pan Am athletes
The 2 Year Rental Program at Minto Westside launched just a few weeks ago. The way it works is that investors receive a guaranteed 6% of the purchase price every month for 48 months. “It even makes sense for someone who isn’t an actual investor,” said Wallace. “A lot of people don’t know where they’re going to be three or four years from now and knowing that you have a rental guarantee if you don’t end up moving into it right away adds a sense of security.”
Minto Westside has been selling very well and there is still a great selection of suites available. There are currently three collections of suites being offered. The Cityview Collection features one-bedrooms, one+dens, two-bedrooms, and two+dens, ranging from 501 to 989 square feet with prices starting at $322,990. All of these suites have a southern or southwestern exposure.
The W2 Collection features one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and one two+den plan. These suites all have northern or eastern exposures and range from 520 to 1,024 square feet, with prices starting at 299,990. The W Collection is comprised of one studio plan, a one-bedroom plan, and a few two-bedrooms, two+dens, and three-bedrooms. These suites have a northern or western exposure and range from 320 to 982 square feet, with prices starting at $199,990.

Demolition at the Minto Westside site is scheduled to begin at the end of the year, and construction will commence early 2016.
