About a year ago, Fusion Homes launched a new master-planned community unlike anything that has ever existed in Guelph. Today, construction is officially under way at The Metalworks! There are five phases planned for The Metalworks, with a total of over 600 condo units and townhomes. Phase 1 of The Metalworks features 133 units and is over 70% sold. Assuming all goes according to plan, Phase 1 will be completed by early 2017. "I am thrilled to be part of this milestone for downtown Guelph," says Mayor Cam Guthrie, who attended and participated in the groundbreaking celebration. "The Metalworks development gives new life to an underused riverfront property in the heart of our downtown, and it will bring hundreds of people to live, work, and play here.” (L-R) Larry Kotseff of Fusion Homes, Maria Pezzano of the Ward Resident’s Association, Mayor Cam Guthrie, Lee Piccoli and Neal Hallock of Fusion Homes.“This moment is the culmination of years of policy work, planning, and collaborative efforts around downtown revitalization, brownfield redevelopment, heritage, and neighbourhood engagement,” adds Guthrie. “This is the moment the work pays off, as we see underused land being transformed into something that will have a major positive impact on our whole community.” The site at 5 Arthur Street South has a history of industrial use spanning back to the 1830s. At one point, the site was a distillery that was part of Allan’s Mill, then it was a manufacturing site for many hardware and metal products. From 1956 to 2010, the site was the former home to the W.C. Wood plant. Based on the name alone, it’s clear that Fusion Homes is drawing inspiration for their buildings designs from the industrial heritage of the neighbourhood. Fusion Homes worked with the Ward Residents’ Association to come up with designs that would be appropriate for the area and would breathe new life into Guelph’s downtown streetscape. “This is not just for the residents of The Metalworks, not just for people in the downtown and the Ward; we are creating something for the entire City of Guelph,” says Fusion Homes Chief Executive Officer, Lee Piccoli. “What started as a single vision has been transformed into something spectacular through the help of all our partners, the City of Guelph, and the Neighbourhood Association. The Metalworks would not be what it is today without the hard work and insights of many different people.” The available units at The Metalworks come in floor plans from one-bedroom to two+dens, with sizes ranging up to more than 3,500 square feet. With such a large range of unit sizes, it’s clear that The Metalworks will be welcoming singles, couples, and families of all sizes. A diverse community like this is exactly what Guelph’s downtown area needs! Some of the impressive features and finishes at The Metalworks include European-style designer cabinetry, energy-efficient stainless steel appliances, spa-inspired bathrooms with deep soaker tubs, large window and spacious balconies, ceramic tile, and granite countertops. The units will also feature fibre-optic cable, giving you access to the fastest internet connection for gaming, working from home, and streaming your favourite movies and television shows.Learn more about The Metalworks
