THE MERCER PRESENTATION BRINGS THE 'WOW' FACTOR

Graywood Developments Ltd. and Beaverhall Homes knew that the Presentation Centre for their fabulous condominium at John and Mercer Streets in Toronto would have to be special to convey the uniqueness of this residence, so they called on The Design Agency to work its magic.

Appointed by Allen Chan, a principal at The Design Agency, the Presentation Centre is part minimalist, part jaw-dropping, beginning with the phenomenal Moraine Sofa designed by Zaha Hadid. Crafted from polyurethane foam/leather, this extraordinary piece of furniture was inspired by glacial formations with its asymmetrical, curvilinear, free-form moulded shape. It’s maroon/oxblood colour adds drama to the sofa, which Chan says complements the reception desk. “The desk is hard and angular, while the sofa is smooth and supple,” he says. “This sofa will be part of the actual condominium lobby. It has a welcoming, organic feel and is artistic and rather unassuming. It is something you need to explore to understand – definitely a memory point.”

The Atelier Ol for Foscarini Allegro suspension lamps are equally as stunning. “We were looking for a light with size and scale, but one that did not feel heavy. This light is elegant and the right size, and it has a ‘bodiless’ feel to it. The simple and elegant scale of the fixtures is perfect. The key words we used to create the design of the centre were unique, modern elegance, artful and contextual.”
