The leaves won’t be the only thing changing this fall

Can you believe it’s September already? The kids are getting ready to go back to school, everyone’s rushing out for one last cottage weekend, and some leaves are even starting to change colour! It’s also time to start thinking about how to get your home ready for the fall season!
Don’t worry, you don’t have to say goodbye to summer completely. Apparently, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is in for a mild September, making up for a “bummer of a summer.”
Last year in Ontario, there were 36 days of summer surpassing 30 degrees celsius. This year, there’s been only nine (which is actually good news for some people who can’t handle the heat).
While you try to squeeze every last ounce of summer out of September, you should also be thinking about fall home maintenance, home decor projects, renovations, and what you want to do in the garden this month.
Interior designer, Jo-Ann Capelaci, will be sharing a few tips on the decor trends for this season, and Canada’s gardening guru, Mark Cullen, will have some advice on the best practices for home gardening in September.
Of course, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the new home market as well! The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) recently announced that the new home supply hit a record low in July 2017.
While supply dropped, sales also took a plunge - but prices still went up! As of the end of July, there were only 7,801 new homes on the market in the GTA, and not much opened in August.
There was also a significant drop in new low-rise sales; there were only 137 in July. There were 100 new low-rise homes released, but that only brings the total to 1,713. The vast majority of new home sales through the summer were in the condo market (1,615 sales in July, which is 92% of the total for the month).
Both BILD and their trusted source for new home market intelligence, Altus Group, said that the summer is always slow and to expect a surge in new inventory this fall. Though sales dropped this summer, the GTA is still on track for another record year of new home sales.
