TCHC Moving Forward on Two Revitalization Projects
By Lucas on Aug 23, 2013
We first heard about the plan to revitalize Alexandra Park a while back, and we have been keeping our eyes out for any further developments. Well, On August 22, the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) announced via their website that not only are they moving forward at Alexandra Park, but they will also be partnering with Diamondcorp and Metropia Inc. at 250 Davenport Road.
The Alexandra Park revitalization
The TCHC and their developer partner, Tridel, have received approval to move forward on phase one of the Alexandra Park revitalization. This means that the sales and marketing of phase one is scheduled for this fall. The proceeds of the sales of phase one at Alexandra Park will go towards replacing existing social housing, refurbishing three other social housing buildings, and the construction of two new roads and other necessary infrastructure.
The 250 Davenport revitalization
Through a public competitive process, the TCHC has selected Diamondcorp and Metropia Inc. to revitalize 250 Davenport Road. The approval that came in last Wednesday states that they can begin to schedule community meetings to hear what the locals have to say about the future of the site. They will also be leveraging the land value of the parking garage lands on the site to fund capital repairs of the existing building and a few surrounding buildings.
What would you like to see at these two locations?
It’s always exciting to see a developer team up with the TCHC to revitalize a pocket of our city that is in need of some attention. Just look at Daniels’ work with the TCHC in Regent Park - they’ve really turned that neighbourhood around.
What kind of development do you expect to see from the TCHC and Tridel at Alexandra Park? It’ll only be a few months before renderings begin to surface. What architect do you think will be involved? How about for 250 Davenport? The site has a lot of potential.
Stay tuned, we’ll be keeping a close eye on both of these new and exciting developments.
