So, how many people out there actually understand what the Tarion Warranty Corporation is? To put it simply, Tarion protects the rights of new home buyers and regulates new home builders.
Tarion’s Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act outlines the protection that new home buyers in the province are entitled to when purchasing a new home.
Tarion’s other official duties include:
License new home builders and vendors
Ensure builders/vendors abide by the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act
Help educate new home buyers about their warranty rights
Protect consumers when builders fail to fulfil their warranty obligations
Resolve disputes about warranty coverage
Investigate illegal building practices
Promote high standards of new home construction
Connie Vassallo discusses the evolution of Tarion
Connie Vassallo, Director, Enrollment & Security, Licensing & Underwriting, has been a part of Tarion since the beginning. For 35 years, she has grown with the company and observed how a private corporation can develop one of North America’s most comprehensive new home warranty programs.
In this brief and concise video, Vassallo discusses why Tarion was created, what the company was like 35 years ago versus what it’s like today, how the warranty program has changed, how Tarion’s role as a regulator has changed, and how they make a difference in the new home industry.
