It’s been a little over a year since Minto first celebrated the launching of Minto Kingmeadow in Oshawa. Only about a month after opening, the ground was broken and only a few months after that, the first residents began to move in. Well, Minto has hit another milestone, and this one is pretty special.Minto recently hosted a street naming ceremony at the Kingmeadow sales centre to honour the Reid family of veterans. Because of the Reid family’s extensive military history, they have been nicknamed the “Fighting Reid’s of Oshawa.” Therefore, Minto named the Kingmeadow street “Fighting Reid’s Gate.” City Councillors, Vince Santino, Mayor John HenryMayor John Henry, councillors, other city members, and members of the Canadian military gathered to commemorate the street naming, and the Reid family was also in attendance. "All of us here at Minto are overjoyed to have been able to honour the remarkable bravery of the Reids who fought for our country overseas and those who had so much impact here at home, as well. It was incredibly powerful to share that moment with the family,” says Vince Santino, Vice President of Development, Minto Communities Canada. Vince Santino, Adam Joe Reid, and Mayor John HenryThe Reid family’s military history extends back to World War I. Alexander Reid Sr. (father) served in the British Royal Navy in World War I and was a member of the Veteran’s Guard of Canada as a reservist in Toronto during World War II. During World War II, there were six members of the Reid family all serving at the same time, and four of them were brothers! Robert “Rab” Reid was a sergeant and tail gunner in the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew missions in Europe. Martha Reid (mother) was also involved on the homefront, working in a munitions factory.James Reid (the oldest son in the family) was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Atlantic Patrol as a flight sergeant. Alexander “Scotty” Reid Jr. and John Reid both joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in Europe with the 48th Highlanders. William Keller (Alexander Reid Sr.’s son-in-law) was a chief petty officer in the Canadian Navy. Andrew Reid (the youngest brother) served as a corporal in communications with the Canadian Navy Peace Keeping for five years in the post-war years. Kingmeadow - via MintoAbout Kingmeadow
