Smart home technology and your new home
By Lucas on Aug 01, 2017
With digital assistant products like Lighthouse and Google Home becoming more common in households across North America, it’s time we spent a whole month dedicated to taking a closer look at the latest and most fascinating smart home technology available and in the works!
Google’s recent market research revealed that Canadians want digital assistants that can find directions, order food, make restaurant reservations, and make or manage shopping lists. Google Home is just starting to experience success in Canada, so it’s only a matter of time before smart digital assistants are more common in our households - a necessity even!
We recently chatted with Tina Holmes, the Festival Manager for a new home event coming to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), called HomeFest. The festival-style event aims to help people curate their homes to match and complement their lifestyles. Holmes says that smart home technology will play a big role at HomeFest.
“Technology can save time and gives consumers an incredible living experience,” says Holmes. HomeFest isn’t until November 2018, so by then, we can only imagine what kind of smart home products will be available.
It seems like the advancement of technology is increasing more and more rapidly as breakthroughs continue to be made in industries across the board. Just look at what a mobile phone looked like in the 1980s...and look at phones now! We’re not even sure why we still call them phones; they do so much more. ‘Devices’ is becoming a common term when referring to a smartphone.
We say ‘devices’ because phones and tablets are becoming more like remotes for other smart technology. For example, your Nest thermostat can be controlled from your smartphone. And, any other smart home product you put in your home will be controlled via an app on your smart devices.
For all of August, we’ll be looking at recent smart home products, technology that’s coming soon, and some of the most stylish smart home products available. We will also be looking into innovative ways to use smart home technology, tips on how to integrate it into your daily life, and we’ll definitely feature some builders and developers that are starting to include smart home technology as standard and upgraded features in new homes.
Stay tuned - we have a lot of interesting features on the way!
