You already love each other, so living together should be a cinch, right? Unfortunately, that’s not always true, especially if your home isn’t conducive for two. If you’re ever fighting over mirror time or bumping into each other trying to get to the coffeemaker every morning, then it’s time to think about renovating your home to make living together even better.
Master bedroom
According to Phys.org, the average person spends one-third of their life sleeping, and if your bedroom isn’t setup for two, then you could be losing out on some essential sleep. When planning a master bedroom, it’s important to think about both of your needs. Do you like to wake up with the sun, or do you avoid early mornings? Do you have a streetlamp directly outside your window or loud neighbours that keep you both up at night?
How you answer these questions will help you decide if you want to keep your bedroom where it is or consider a new addition that would provide you with a more optimal location. Don’t forget to include appropriate soundproofing and light-reducing blinds if you want to block out the rest of the world.
Master bathroom and closet
No master bedroom is complete without a stunning bathroom and ample closet space. Well-lit double vanities and a separate toilet area are obvious essentials for any couple, but so is storage. Between toiletries and towels, it’s easy for even a large bathroom to feel cramped and cluttered when it doesn’t have enough storage.
Plan to include plenty of cabinetry and built-in shelving so that each of you has easy access to items you use on a daily basis. The same holds true for closets. Whether you choose to have one large walk-in closet or two separate closets, maximize your square footage by incorporating a good decluttering system to help keep things organized.
Energy efficiency and comfort
Energy efficiency and comfort level aren’t the first two ideas that come to mind when thinking about making your home life as a couple even easier, but they should be. It’s no fun cozying up together next to drafty windows, and they cause a spike in your energy bills, too. That’s why Home Improvement Leads suggests laying new attic insulation and replacing worn out windows with Energy Star certified alternatives to help make snuggling up together as cozy—and affordable—as possible.
