Receive a FREE electric car with a purchase at Bside at Minto Westside!

Earlier this week, we received news about Bside at Minto Westside launching at Front and Bathurst in Toronto. Just a couple days later, Minto announced a partnership with Nissan Canada to offer free electric cars for purchasers!
This is quite the coincidence because we recently released a new infographic highlighting the most in-demand condo amenities, and one of the most popular suggestions amongst those surveyed was electric car charging stations.
Here’s how the deal works: If you purchase a parking spot with an electric vehicle (EV) charging station along with your new condo unit, you will receive a Nissan LEAF, absolutely free, courtesy of Minto.
“Our goal is to design for the future,” says Wells Baker, Director of Conservation and Sustainable Design at Minto. “Installing EV chargers at Bside gives residents who want a vehicle in the city the ability to make an affirmative environmental decision. That alone is a huge step forward, but we wanted to take that next step and actually incentivize a decision towards the more sustainable option.”
The Nissan LEAF launched in 2010 as the first 100% electric car for the general public. With over 188,000 sales around the world, it is the best selling electric vehicle available. As of last September, Nissan beat their own sales record, reporting a 27.4% year-over-year sales increase, proving that the demand for sustainable transportation is growing.

“Accessible charging is an important consideration when people are looking at buying an electric vehicle and is especially challenging for those living in a condominium or apartment,” says Steven Rhind, director of marketing at Nissan Canada Inc. “Minto Bside’s commitment to integrating EV charging infrastructure is an important step in expanding the adoption of electric vehicles. The added incentive of offering an all-electric Nissan LEAF to buyers is exceptional.”
So, how many EV charging spots are available? There hasn’t been a limit set yet, especially since Minto plans on making it possible to install more chargers in the future, even once the building is complete.
“The majority of high-rise buildings are faced with the challenge of overcoming a lack of infrastructure and space required for transformers needed to install electrical vehicle chargers,” explains Baker. “Bside is aiming to set a new benchmark in Toronto. It’s being developed with a dedicated transformer for EV chargers as well as space to add additional chargers as demand grows.”
This is a huge, unprecedented incentive, but we can’t say that it comes as a total surprise. Minto has a reputation as a leader in sustainability, with nearly 3,000 condo units certified through LEED in less than a decade. And, MintoMidtown in Toronto is North America’s largest condo development to achieve LEED Gold certification.
