The Rebirth of St. James Town
By Lucas on Mar 05, 2013
Some areas of the city are really in need of a new look, whether they need new developments or redevelopments, and one of those neighbourhoods is St. James Town. Developers, such as Tridel (at James Cooper Mansion) and Cityzen (at the Clarion Hotel), are hard at work bringing in new attractive buildings to the area.
Another potential game changer for St. James Town is Lanterra's plans for Sherbourne and Bloor, where a series of older townhomes currently stands. According to an application filed with the City of Toronto in 2011, Lanterra is hoping to build four new towers, ranging in size from 12 to 45 storeys, all designed by architectsAlliance. The plan has been in the works for a while now, with Lanterra working with both the public and elected officials to bring the project to market. No news on an approval just yet, but recently, Lanterra submitted some new renderings to the City. As you can see, architectsAlliance and Lanterra certainly have some impressive plans for St. James Town.We are very excited to see how this one plays out. The area hasn’t seen a great deal of condo development over the past 15 years, so don’t be surprised if a few NIMBYs surface now that a rendering has been released. We are sure that there will be more small tweaks to the proposal, but it’s great to see developers finding high potential sites in districts that aren’t usually the target of such developments.Stay tuned to the Toronto Star's NewInHomes.com, we plan to have more information on this one as it becomes available.
