Pull Up a Chair
By on Aug 29, 2007
There has recently
been a renewedinterest in chairs
dating from the years of the1920's through to the 1970's.
Panton, Volther, Platner andBertoia are just a few of the
designers whose originalchairs are in high demand and
tagged with high prices.
Many of these chairs are available in a multitude of
colours and textures ranging from bright oranges, cobaltblues and fire engine reds. They are organic in form and
come in a great range of materials, such as wood, leather, polycarbonate, chrome and even fibreglass. Still, to this
day, many of these chairs have stood the test of time andprove to be some of the most innovative and ingenious
designs of the 20th century.
Perhaps, these chairs remind us of our childhood,
conjuring up memories of family that somehow, provide us with a sense of security. Or, they may remind
us of a moment in history where our youth has beenrecaptured. Or maybe, these chairs remind us of a time
when the world was a much different place. Whatever itmay be, chairs such as the Diamond by Bertoia or the
Barcelona by Mies van der Rohe provide differentspiritual connections for different people and the
connection is so strong, that people are willing to paythe price.
