Another Proposal for Humber Bay
By Lucas on Dec 09, 2012
Humber Bay is in the midst of a transformation. What was once an area with empty spaces, old office buildings, and inefficient single storey buildings is turning into one of the GTA’s most diverse and dense neighbourhoods.
One builder that is at the heart of the Humber Bay rejuvenation is the Onni Group. The Vancouver based developer is one of the few builders who saw the potential in the area, and has become a leader in the redevelopment of Humber bay
Onni’s first development, Westlake, a three-phase development at the corner of Lakeshore Rd. West and Parklawn, was extremely successful. The success was certainly a result of the more affordable price points. Now, they are set to release another project at the site dubbed “Westlake Encore,” the last opportunity to own at Onni's Westlake community.
So, what does Westlake Encore have to offer? Well, in an application submitted to the City of Toronto, Onni is planning on building a mixed-use, 45-storey tower at 10 Parklawn Ave. The tower will feature 523 residential suites, two-storey residential townhomes, and commercial at grade. At this point, we are not sure what will occupy the commercial space, but we don't doubt that it will be welcomed by the locals!
When it comes to Humber Bay, there is an ever raging debate over “how much is too much?” 27 towers at the Christie Bakery seems excessive, but we have a demand issue in Toronto. With over 100,000 new residents moving into the city, with no new rental buildings planned, and with little to no room to develop low-rise, areas like Humber Bay are the only thing that can save us from overpopulation.
