Phase 3 of Regent Park Revitalization in the Works!

Newinhomes.com was fortunate enough to take part in the kicking off of Phase 3 at Toronto Community Housing (TCH) and The Daniels Corporation’s Regent Park master-plan in Toronto. To celebrate the start of Phase 3, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) unveiled the plans for the new Athletic Grounds, and Daniels started the demolition!
Purchasers, members of the community, and city officials, including Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly and Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale councillor Pam McConnell were in attendance. “Access to safe, clean, affordable housing is fundamental in the success of any world-class city, and Toronto is no exception,” said Kelly.
Martin Blake, Vice President, The Daniels Corporation spoke on behalf of Daniels: “The revitalization is no longer just a vision of the future. Regent Park is being reborn as a thriving, healthy and sustainable community...Once the demolition is complete, we will start the construction of the new services, new roads, and the fabulous MLSE Athletic grounds. Most importantly, we will start the construction of the new homes for those people who have been temporarily relocated and buyers who are choosing Regent Park as their new address.”
Prior to the Regent Park revitalization, there were approximately 7,500 residents living in 2,083 rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units. When Regent Park is complete, there will be around 17,000 residents, with zero displacement. Daniels and TCH are ensuring that all RGI units are replaced.
Aside from the demolition, the most exciting part about the kicking off of Phase 3 was the unveiling of the plans for the new Athletic Grounds.
“Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and our MLSE Foundation believe that kids should have access to sport and the opportunity to experience lasting dreams on the playing field,” said Michael Bartlett, Executive Director, MLSE Foundation. “Time and time again, we bare witness to how the power of sport can unite friends, neighbourhoods, an entire city, and of course our country.”
The new Athletic Grounds, funded primarily by MLSE with support from Daniels, will feature a soccer/cricket pitch, a refurbished ice rink, a new basketball court, and running track. The designs were presented by the fourth grade class from Nelson Mandela Park Public School, and they even had a few of their own renderings to unveil!
In addition to the Athletic Grounds, Phase 3 of the Regent Park revitalization will focus on the construction of 614 replacement RGI units, as well as six new market condo buildings.
We congratulate Daniels, the TCH, and all the members of the Regent Park community on making it so far in the revitalization process. They have already made a huge difference, and the neighbourhood is only going to get better with each new day.
