Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Pianosi Development’s Perspective Condos site at Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto for a construction update. We met Site Superintendent Neil Wakil on site, who explained what stage they are on at Perspective.

According to Wakil, they are currently pouring the first slab of P1. The first two levels, P3 and P2, took only a couple months to complete. Wakil said that Perspective should reach ground level by the end of January 2014. They have about 10,000 square feet of retail to build at street level, then five storeys of podium, and then they can start the floors above.

One thing we noticed at the Perspective Condos site that we have never seen at any other construction site was a spectator; in fact, there were two! There were two people who actually brought chairs and set them up outside the fence and were just watching. Wakil said that they’re there every day unless it’s raining. It used to be just the one man who would always come and watch, but eventually his wife (or they’re assuming it’s his wife) started showing up with him! That’s the most adorable construction story we’ve ever heard.

Living and working in downtown Toronto, we have become accustomed to construction. For most, construction is an obstacle on the way to work, or the annoying sound that renders the alarm clock useless. Up at Scarlett and Eglinton, condos aren’t so common, and there’s a very good chance that this couple has never seen something built from the ground up, let alone a two-phased condo. They made us remember how amazing the building industry is. Who would have thought that we’d get a new perspective on construction at the Perspective Condos site?
