An Early Peek at Lakeshore and Cherry
By Lucas on Apr 16, 2013
The Canary District is an area that continues to grab our attention due to its size and importance to the city. Dundee Kilmer has hired some amazing architects and planners to design a walkable, pedestrian-friendly master plan for Toronto’s West Don Lands.
Now, we are seeing the rest of the east end beginning to rise!
Lakeshore Rd. and Cherry St.
One area that we have been keeping an eye on is Lakeshore Rd. and Cherry St. The 13.5 acre site has been sitting dormant for years, just waiting for a developer with the right vision. At one point, the site was scheduled to be a large retail complex, headlined by a Home Depot, however a loss at the Ontario Municipal Board put the site back on the market.
Last year, our friends at Cityzen partnered with Castlepoint Realty Partners and Continental Ventures Realty to purchase the site. Since then, we have been awaiting word on a proposal. This week, The National Post posted some very interesting images of some renderings for the high potential site.
The Possibilities of Lakeshore and Cherry
Now keep in mind, these renderings are not even close to finals. They have been released somewhat prematurely, but it does give us a feel for what’s possible at Lakeshore and Cherry. As we expected, the developers are looking to build low-rises and high-rises, and it looks like a lot of green space will be incorporated into the development.
As stated, the image presented is an extremely early look at the plan. Given Cityzen's history in development and design, we have no doubt that they will exceed our high expectations for the site.
