November: Urban Art Month
By Lucas on Nov 01, 2013
It’s November! You know what that means. Yes, a lot more moustaches on the streets of Toronto - but also a new theme on our blog!
For all of November, we will be focusing on the visual art scene in Toronto. Art is all around us from the comforts of our home to our public spaces, from condo lobbies to city alleys. It’s fair to say that Urban Art is probably one of the only things that is truly a part of the people and a part of the city. When you go to a different city, you may see similar architecture, parks, and roads, but you will most likely never see the same street art.
Not only do we plan to highlight some of Toronto’s most prominent art pieces, but we will provide a series of educational posts about street art/graffiti. When is a spraypainted image vandalism and when is it a masterpiece? You’ll receive different answers depending on who you ask. What is the history behind graffiti? How significant is that history to the way Toronto has developed over the years?
We will also be focusing on how the City is contributing to Toronto’s art scene. What is being done, what can be done better, and what should be done?
Fairly recently, condo developers in Toronto have started getting more involved in the Urban Art scene because they realize that the arts community is a significant trait of the city’s character.
