(NC)-Recent years have seen an explosion of design and functional options for the kitchen faucet. Today consumers can select from an array of contemporary minimalist or traditional styles, solid spout or pull-out spray functions, and a wide range of sizes and brands.
However given the prominence of the faucet in the kitchen, one of the first and most important design considerations is the finish. While chrome is a popular look that always looks fresh and is also less expensive, higher-end kitchens often opt for the more expensive stainless steel to match appliances or for a softer, more elegant look. Other options today include polished nickel, copper or oil-rubbed bronze. With some of these finishes, the consumer is wise to check the manufacturer's warranty as not all finishes are permanent and could rub off with regular use.
One of the latest finish offerings is a line of coloured faucets from German sink manufacturer Blanco. European-designed and manufactured, these faucets will add a splash of colour to any kitchen and can be matched to the countertop, backsplash or the company's line of Silgranit, natural granite sinks, depending on the look desired.

"Our most popular faucet colour is anthracite, a deep black finish with a subtle mineral pearlescence that makes it an ideal colour matched to a black granite or quartz countertop," says Alexandra Marshall, director of marketing for Blanco. "The colour was developed to complement our Silgranit anthracite sinks but we also like to show it with stainless steel and a black granite countertop for a more dramatic look."
The new line of coloured faucets are currently available in anthracite, stone biscuit, white and bronzed café and are available in several styles. The company plans to add more colours to the line in 2009 including cognac (a rich copper metallic), silk (grey) and biscotti. All Blanco faucets come with a lifetime warranty on the finish.
"We recommend bronzed café as an alternative to oil rubbed bronze for anyone looking for a rich brown colour," comments Ms. Marshall. "While an oil-rubbed bronze finish can rub off fairly quickly with use, our colour finish is permanent."
