Multi-Condo Proposal for 1750 The Queensway
By Lucas on Nov 06, 2013
Looks like there might be another series of condo towers going up around Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke!
According to the City of Toronto’s Development Application website, the owner of 1750 The Queensway is seeking a rezoning to permit three 27-storey residential buildings with a total of 904 units, as well as retail space on the ground floor.
The Sherway Gardens neighbourhood got its first taste of the condo lifestyle when Menkes and Great Gulf made waves with their One Sherway master-plan. Tower 4 and Final Tower were completed just this year, and there are still a few suites available for quick move-ins. Sizes range from 552 to 1,261 square feet.
1750 The Queensway is currently a large strip plaza with a UPS location, a Staples, an LCBO, and a restaurant or two. Most of the area is taken up by a surface parking lot, making it a big target for developers.
We don’t see why there would be any issues getting approval for three 27-storey towers. The Final Tower at One Sherway is 28 storeys tall, and the others are all over 20.
The developer behind the application is Fima Developments, and Quadrangle Architects will be designing the towers. If we were to speculate, we would say that the towers will match the modern steel and glass aesthetic of One Sherway, but with a little twist that makes Quadrangle’s projects stand out so much. Most modern designs feature hard vertical and horizontal lines, but Quadrangle likes to play with this style, throwing in diagonal edges that require a second glance.
The Sherway Gardens area has always been known for its higher end shops and easily accessible amenities. The proximity to where the QEW and 427 Highways intersect make it ideal for people looking for a sophisticated condo lifestyle outside of Toronto’s downtown core. Everything is a few minutes away when you need it, and far enough to avoid the crowds when you don’t.
The application for the rezoning has only been in the review process for about a month, so it might be a little while before we see a rendering.
What kind of design would you like to see at 1750 The Queensway?
