Monde: The Future of Toronto's Waterfront
By on Oct 25, 2011
The inspirational design was conceived in the mind of Moshe Safdie, an architect from Boston. Safdie worked in collaboration with Quadrangle Architects Limited, Cecconi Simone Inc., and landscape designer Janet Rosenberg + Associates in order to create a residential building with the most exquisite exteriors and interiors. Safdie has a very high respect for the minimalist style, which allows the 40-storey building to reflect and absorb the personality of its breathtaking surroundings. The expansive, protruding balconies are great for taking in that fresh lake air, and they alternate positions to make for two storeys of head space between them. The weathered finish of the podium walls pays homage to the rugged edges of Lake Ontario, and the 40’ stone columns resemble those of a national museum rather than a residential building. The exterior design is truly inspired by both the lake and the city.
As impressive as the building is, the surrounding environment and amenities are unparalleled. The neighbourhood is a magnificent amalgamation of all that Toronto living has to offer. Sherbourne Common will be just beyond the doorstep, and Martin Goodman Trail, and the new boardwalk are perfect for biking. If you want to spend a hot summer day outdoors relaxing, then Sugar Beach is just down the street. If window shopping, quaint boutiques, and restaurants are what you crave, then the King East Design District, the St. Lawrence Market, and the Distillery District are all within a stone’s throw. Aside from the surrounding amenities, there will also be a number of shops, cafes, and public lounge spaces at the ground level of the building.
Monde will feature 513 units, available in one to three bedroom layouts, with sizes ranging from 483-1,253 square feet. The immense project is scheduled for completion by the winter of 2016. The completion of Monde will surely augment Toronto’s waterfront as a world class destination.
