Living up to the reputation of their worldwide iconic epithet, Mississauga’s ‘Marilyn Monroe’ buildings are attracting international attention. Having been completed only about a year ago, Absolute World 1 and 2 by Cityzen and Fernbrook Homes were recently awarded the Emporis Skyscraper Award 2012.
Celebrated for their voluptuous structure, Absolute World 1’s 56-storey torso rotates a total of 209° all around creating the smooth semblance of the renowned actress it has been nicknamed after. Designed to complement the first building, Absolute World 2 uniquely hugs each curve in expert design. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the towers offer maximum lighting with passive solar design to each apartment through continuous, personalized balcony access.
Winning this award, for the first time in thirteen years puts Mississauga on par with architecturally acclaimed cities such as Singapore and New York City. The towers were chosen from over 300 international skyscrapers at least 100 meters tall built last year.
"The way the two structures twist organically by up to 8 degrees per floor is not just a superb technical achievement, but also a refreshing change to the set forms of high-rise routine," said the panel of international experts who selected the towers about what distinguished the buildings from the rest.
Built at the heart of Mississauga’s core, residents have easy access to transportation, restaurants and prime shopping. The towers are part of the five-tower Absolute City Centre complex designed by MAD Ltd and Burka Architects. Aside from their praise-worthy exterior beauty, the interior design of the buildings ensures exclusivity from floor-to-floor.
Expect to see more from Fernbrook Homes and Cityzen Development Group, as they have teamed up for several projects that are currently under construction all over the GTA. New projects include: the 57-storey L Tower building at Yonge and Front, Pier 27 on the shore of Lake Ontario and recently completed, The Shores Condominium and Residences in Oakville.
