Minto Westside wins over first-time homebuyer
By Sumiko Wilson on Jul 07, 2016
Buying your first home can be scary, especially in Toronto’s fierce real estate scene with soaring prices and shrinking square footage. Still, city living has not lost its appeal for ambitious millennials like Melody Negri, a Mississauga-native who, upon deciding to branch out and invest in her first home, opted for Minto’s exciting King West development, Minto Westside.
Newinhomes.com had the opportunity to speak with Melody about her experience buying her first home with Minto.
First-time homebuyers are eagerly exploring the downtown housing market in hopes of scoring a suite that seamlessly combines affordability and accessibility with contemporary design in a close-knit community.
With stylish units ranging from 320 to 989 square feet, including studio to three-bedroom plans, there is a wide selection for first-time homebuyers at Minto Westside. Especially for Melody, who was wary of purchasing a unit that was larger than she needed at this stage in her life.
Like the vast majority of new homebuyers, Melody started her condo search online. It was there that she came across ads for Minto Westside. Eventually, the ads started popping up in her Facebook feed and after a lot of research, she decided to add Minto Westside to her list.
The popular King West condo development was one of the first buildings that Melody checked out thoroughly, and she instantly saw it as an incredible opportunity to enter the housing market.
After signing, she felt a slight sting of worry that she made the decision too hastily without seeing enough options. This is a common feeling for first-time homebuyers since they just made what was probably the largest purchase of their lives, so far.
To alleviate her anxiety, she simply used Minto Westside as her standard and compared it to a few competitors in which she was interested. Ultimately, she was more than pleased with her decision to buy her first home with Minto. The price was right, Minto’s customer service was very helpful, the building design was unique, and above all, the location was perfect.
Living in King West
Corner of Front and Bathurst
Located at Front and Bathurst in the King West neighbourhood, Minto Westside is in the heart of it all. The wide selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs made it a popular destination for Melody and her friends before she even started her home search.
Melody says that she, “always loved being around King West,” and when she was tasked with planning group outings, they almost always ended up somewhere on the King West strip.
From intimate hidden gems to live venues and trendy clubs, King West offers a 24-hour lifestyle. You can wake up in the morning after a night out and get brunch with a friend or just grab a coffee and go for a stroll in one of the parks. Melody was looking for a neighbourhood that offered a well rounded lifestyle, and King West was the obvious spot.
Coming from the suburbs, Melody has grown accustomed to having a car. She did purchase a parking spot at Minto Westside, but looks forward to having quick access to 24-hour public transit at her doorstep (Bathurst streetcar and King streetcar). Minto Westside’s convenient proximity to public transit aligns with Minto’s continued commitment to sustainability, a growing concern among millennials.
Walkscore.com gives Front and Bathurst a Walk Score of 95 out of 100, labelling it as a “Walker’s Paradise,” which means that most of your daily errands can be accomplished on foot. The Transit Score is 100 and the Bike Score is 87. Perhaps Melody will end up renting out her parking spot to a neighbour.
Life at Minto Westside
As she gears up for her move-in date, Melody is juggling opposing emotions, like many first-time homebuyers. She is nervous to grapple the expenses associated with owning a home downtown but only because it is unfamiliar territory. Other first-time apprehensions were eased by Minto’s helpful service from the showroom to the final signing.
She is really looking forward to working out in the ultra-modern Movement Haus gym and lounging by the rooftop pool. Other amenities at Minto Westside include an outdoor fireplace and lounge, and the indoor Skyline Lounge that opens up to the pool, making it a great spot to host larger get-togethers.
Melody is excited to experience condo life and when it’s time to move on from Minto Westside, she strongly believes that the condo will appreciate greatly, which was yet another selling-point.
