Minimalism: Exploring the minimalist lifestyle

By Lucas on Mar 01, 2016

How is it already March? We feel like 2016 just began yesterday and we’re almost one quarter into it! Though the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has experienced a pretty mild winter (for the most part), the new month has us thinking of spring and all that comes with it, like flowers, greenery, the chirping of birds, and of course, spring cleaning. The idea of starting fresh is what inspired this month’s theme of Minimalism!

For all of March, we wil be discussing and exploring the idea of minimalism; the lifestyle, the philosophy, the concept, the approach, the method, the aesthetic. How can a minimalist approach to living change the way we interact with our homes and other possessions? Can minimalism be a negative thing?

Our special features will focus on spring cleaning and decluttering tips, editorial pieces from interior designers, in-depth research into the science behind minimalism, minimalist design trends of 2016, and much more! The minimalist approach to design became popular in the 1960s and 1970s, but there seems to be a resurgence occurring in mainstream channels.

As fans of the minimalist movement, we’re especially curious in discovering why some people are so put off by the notion of “less is more.” We like the idea of being organized, having clean surfaces, everything having a purpose, but we realize that some people consider this look kind of cold. We plan on finding out why!

If you are an interior designer, architect, artist, landscape architect, or someone who is just generally interested in the topic of minimalism, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We may find your opinion interesting and want to feature it on the homepage of our blog!
