Locals may get Park at 11 Wellesley

One of the most interesting high profile sites in Toronto is 11 Wellesley because of its size and location. Over the past six months we have been speculating about the future of 11 Wellesley; will there be a master plan for it, what will the towers look like, will there be green space included, etc.
A number of locals, lead by local Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, were pushing to have the lot developed into a public park, but due to the value of the site on the open market, the Province ending up selling it to well-known Toronto developer Lanterra Developments.
Well, it looks as though Lanterra is open to including quite a bit of green space surrounding their condo development at 11 Wellesley.
“We are in fluid discussions with the city councillor, and the game plan is to see if we can work something out over the next few months that provides more of a park concept with one tower, and that’s something that we would look to do,” said Barry Fenton, CEO of Lanterra Developments.
Councillor Wong-Tam sounds very confident that the site will have a park, stating: “The province was suggesting to developers that they can develop the site by putting in two to three condominium or office towers...Lanterra has been put on notice, and I did tell them that I would expect to see a park as soon as possible.”
Nothing is official, for Lanterra hasn’t submitted any plans, but we think that if Lanterra can present an innovative tower and create a beautiful public park, then it would make everyone happy.
