Leaf your worries behind: How the fall season affects your home

Depending on who you ask, the beginning of September is either a welcomed or despised time of the year. Those who love the summer don’t want to accept that fall is right around the corner. Those tired of the heat are looking forward to chillier weather. Either way, you need to start thinking about how the fall season affects your home, inside and out.  

Fall in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) doesn’t usually last very long, so it’s very important that you even start thinking about when the snow flies. That said, last year was very mild and we didn’t see snow or colder temperatures until mid-November. We have our fingers crossed, but just in case, we will still be sharing some home maintenance tips for you to consider this fall.

Of course, the changing of the season is a great excuse to change up the interior and exterior decor of your home. We will have interior designers and decorating professionals providing some great information on the hottest trends for this 2016 fall season. If we do end up having a more mild fall/winter again, then you should be ready to use your outdoor space well into the end of the year.

Another thing to keep in mind is that September and October are typically very busy months for new home sales across the GTA. The summer has been kind of slow, but there have been some jumps in sales due to strong demand. In July 2016, there were only 905 new low-rise sales, which is a 32% year-over-year decrease, but there were over 2,200 high-rise sales, a 52% increase.

One of the reasons that low-rise sales have been so low is because of a lack of inventory. As of the end of July, there were just over 1,500 new low-rise units on the market. Even with low supply and dramatically rising prices, sales have been steady.

According to Trimart Research Corporation, there are over 30 new releases and openings planned for the Total Market Area (TMA), so there will soon be a little surge in new low-rise inventory. Keep in mind that the TMA includes areas outside the GTA, so don’t be surprised to see even more buyers looking outside of the GTA for their new home in September. And you shouldn’t hesitate to extend your search to different neighbouring areas, like Simcoe County.
