Kids and Condos: The Story of a Happy Quay West Purchaser

Raising a family in a condominium downtown can be a bold decision for a young family, especially when many families are moving out to the suburbs. Luckily, fortune favours the bold, and Amanda Ireland and her husband Baden could not be happier to raise their family on Toronto’s scenic shoreline in Quay West by Monarch. Amanda talks about the advantages of living with two children at the water’s edge, in a 2,000 square foot condo. Despite Baden’s initial uncertainty, Amanda is happy to report that raising a family in a downtown condominium has been an experience that neither of them would trade away - not for the whitest picket fence in suburbia.

Having personally grown up in a sleek condo on Toronto’s waterfront, Amanda explains that it only seemed natural to carry on the tradition with a customized home at Quay West, the perfect waterfront home in the sky for their young family. “I think Baden always assumed we would move when we had children. We’ve grown to love and appreciate the convenience, though, and don’t ever want to move,” says Amanda. Once the morning sunshine rolls in, the family is up early to seize the day with a stroll along Toronto’s waterfront. The family takes full advantage of the many local parks, spending time in the city’s endless repertoire of bakeries, butcher shops and food markets. The enchanting green space and amenities at the water’s edge are too good to pass up, with paths along the lake ideal for jogging, rollerblading, cycling and leisurely strolls. As former members of their University rowing teams, the waterfront lifestyle is in their blood.
“Our suite offers spectacular views of the yacht club, airport, and yachts at their mooring - a very comfortable abode for enjoying the scenery from sunrise to sunset,” Amanda tells us. Their large terrace is an ideal setting for entertaining guests, and their location allows them to truly give their friends a taste of Toronto at its best.

Currently on maternity leave, Amanda enjoys taking her daughter to join other children from across the GTA who attend a community school on the island, which helps to incorporate nature into the children’s everyday activities. Amanda also attended this school when she was young, and is planning to send her second child there too when the time is right. Although some parents are worried about raising their children in a city environment, the waterfront location keeps the beauty of the island at arm’s reach, allowing for the perfect balance of lifestyle.
“Growing up in downtown was a tremendous experience for me as a child, one I am excited to share it with my family. I believe our home will hold its value because it provides sweeping panoramic views of the city at night, and captivating views of the waterside community during the day from our floor to ceiling windows and wrap-around terrace,” Amanda elaborates. With two young children in the house, the amenities of the condominium will surely come in handy in the upcoming years. Taking a trip downstairs to the Quay West Club for a work out, and the relaxing Zen spa with a sauna, whirlpool and rinsing shower is a great way to unwind after a busy day. For the kids, the entertainment facilities mean that they can enjoy themselves without even leaving the building. “After dinner we often find ourselves in the sports lounge, billiards room, or watching a movie in the theatre. This is the perfect condo for a couple who likes to entertain friends or family with small kids,” Amanda adds.

Buying into a condominium during the construction phase also allowed Amanda and her husband to tailor their home design to their specific family needs. With a spacious interior, stunning view and central location to both urban and green environments, it’s hard to imagine a better place to reside as a young family. “This is our first Monarch home. I would absolutely recommend Monarch. Their design of their condominiums and willingness to accommodate our design changes made the whole process seamless,” Amanda mentions. In terms of location, security, and even aesthetics, it’s hard to imagine a better setting than the Quay West community. Although some might be apprehensive to raise a family in the city, with the right location and a well-designed condominium, there is truly a world of opportunity to look forward to.
