J. Davis House: New boutique condo coming to Toronto
By Lucas on Nov 16, 2015
The acquisition of Monarch was a great move for Mattamy Homes; it gave them an easy in to the mid-rise and high-rise condo game, and they also took hold of a good handful of developable land. So, we’re very excited to learn more about J. Davis House, a new boutique condo in Toronto by Mattamy Homes and Biddington Homes.
At the moment, not a whole lot is known about J. Davis House, but there is a beautiful rendering of the development, and we do know that the Davisville Village area is pretty amazing.
Judging by the rendering, it looks like the exterior of J. Davis House will be comprised of a combination of brick, glass, and steel. The use of brick is particularly important in this area since Davisville Village has so many low- and mid-rise buildings from the mid 1800s. The historical architecture plays a big role in the village-like atmosphere, so it’s great that the new condo will complement existing architecture.
The rendering makes it look like there is plenty of street level retail at J. Davis House. Davisville Village already has a vibrant streetscape of boutiques and unique shops and we’re positive that a few new options will be welcomed by the locals.
It also seems that the majority of units will have spacious balconies and you can see where the building steps, there are huge room-size terraces. The units with the large terraces are ideal for people who love to entertain. During the warmer months, all you have to do is slide the glass doors open and you’ve added way more mingling room.
Located at Yonge and Davisville, J. Davis House is at the centre of one of the most walkable neighbourhoods in Toronto. WalkScore.com gives this intersection a 95 out of 100, labelling it a “Walker’s Paradise,” because all of your daily errands can be easily accomplished on foot.
Thanks to the Yonge subway line, the neighbourhood also has a Transit Score of 82. But, when it comes to choosing between transit, your own two feet, or your bike, two wheels are the way to go. The Bike Score is 100 because the land is “flat as a pancake” and there are many safe bike lanes.
The majority of neighbourhood amenities can be found along Yonge. If you’re craving good ol’ fashioned pub fare there is no shortage of options with Kramer’s Bar & Grill and The Wallace Gastropub. If you’re more of a sushi lover, you’re also covered with Haruzushi Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Zone, which are within walking distance.
Obviously, you can’t eat out every night, and you should take advantage of what will surely be an amazing kitchen. Keep your cupboards well stocked by picking up some produce at Fresh Buy Market, where you’ll find some sidewalk stands. Then pick up the other essentials at Sobeys, which is a minute or two south of Davisville.
Though there are large balconies and room-sized terraces at J. Davis House, having park space in your neighbourhood is very important. Oriole Park just west of Yonge is a great spot to fit in a game of catch or a tennis match thanks to the baseball diamond and outdoor tennis court. The park also features a bike trail, a picnic area, a playground, a splash pad, and a wading pool.
