J. Davis House is perfecting intimate, boutique condo living

As you may have heard, Mattamy Homes is getting into the high-rise market in a big way, which is why we are so excited about J. Davis House in Toronto. Partnering with Biddington Homes, Mattamy is developing their first condo in the GTA, and by the look of their new presentation centre, the neighbourhood is in for something special.

J. Davis House will rise nine storeys just north of Davisville on Yonge Street, boasting a boutique design by Graziani + Corazza Architects. We recently had the opportunity to tour the presentation centre and learn more about J. Davis House from Linda Robinson, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, High-Rise, Mattamy Homes.

“The beauty of J. Davis House is that this isn’t something that you’re going to see up at Yonge and Eglinton. The philosophy behind the building is about returning to roots; simplified living and cultivating community by spending more time with friends and family; walking to the bakery Saturday morning to enjoy a cup of coffee and croissant, ” explained Robinson. “It has a real intimate feel to it. It really respects the look and feel of the neighbourhood. Where else in the GTA are you going to find a building where you can get these views?”

The use of brick and precast and the storey height of nine storeys is a testament to Mattamy and Biddington’s commitment to respecting and complementing the rich heritage of Davisville, which is supported through the neighbourhood’s original and restored architecture from the mid 1800s.

Even the J. Davis House presentation centre is a beautiful, old brick building that used to be a bank. Mattamy and Biddington made good use of the bank’s vault area by putting a few pieces of history on display and there is also some information about John Davis, the first postmaster in the area. John Davis opened Davisville pottery, which then became one of the first commercial establishments in the region. The company was the biggest employer of the neighbourhood for many years. The name J. Davis House and the pottery in the logo pays homage to this.  

The Davisville Village neighbourhood has really guided Mattamy and Biddington’s process of developing this new boutique condo. “We’re really tapping into the neighbourhood here,” Robinson said. “We have built a cohesive relationship with the local shops, buying fresh cookies from the local bakery or flowers from the local florists to have in our presentation centre for people to enjoy.” Even the great community video they put together stars a real family from Davisville Village!

The Davisville subway station is only a three minute walk away, and you can get to every daily amenity like grocery stores, schools, libraries, movie theatres, art galleries, and antique shops easily by foot. Plus, Moore Park Ravine features eight kilometres of scenic trails that are ideal for cycling, a relaxing stroll, or a morning jog.

Living at J. Davis House in Toronto

Last month, J. Davis House had their Preview Opening with a great response. We’re not surprised at all now that we’ve seen the amazing floor plans, scale model building, and model suite vignettes. “There were young professionals to empty nesters who are moving down. We saw every kind of buyer at the preview,” Robinson said.

J. Davis House will feature approximately 190 suites in total, with floor plans spanning from studio to two-bedroom+den. The suites will range from 300 to 1,485 square feet, with prices starting in the low $200,000s. Every suite comes with a balcony, terrace, or Juliet balcony, and the terrace sizes can get as large as 1,210 square feet!  

The interiors are designed by Graziani + Corazza + Biase Interior Architecture. When you tour the presentation centre for the first time, the majority of features and finishes you’ll see in the kitchen and bathroom vignettes come standard, including the wine fridge in the island.

A few other interior features and finishes included standard at J. Davis House are 9’ smooth ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, wide plank laminate flooring, ceramic tile, beautiful backsplashes, European style cabinetry with deep uppers, and sleek stainless steel appliances.

As we admired the scale model building, Robinson pointed out that there will be the convenience of retail along the ground floor. The fully equipped fitness centre and yoga studio will be located on the ground level as well, and will feature men's and women's change rooms with saunas. Residents will also have the peace of mind of having a 24/7 concierge.

The other amenities, including a large party room with a walkout to a terrace with a firepit and water features, a barbecue lounge and dining area, a billiards room, and a guest suite, will be located on the fifth floor.
