INFOGRAPHIC: City in the Clouds
By Lucas on Jul 24, 2013
For this month’s Architecture theme, we decided to take a look at one of Toronto’s most prominent architectural features: The Skyscraper.
Emporis, the world’s leading database for building data, describes a skyscraper as any building that stands at least 100 metres tall. We’ve got those in spades; in fact, Toronto has the third most skyscrapers in North America, and the seventh most in the world.
There are 157 skyscrapers currently populating the Toronto skyline, with an additional 112 in the planning and construction stages.
Toronto is building more skyscrapers than anyone in the western world. We have six times more skyscrapers under construction than Vancouver, and 10 times more than Calgary. If that doesn’t push the ceiling enough, Aura by Canderel, scheduled for completion in 2014, will be the tallest residential tower in North America, reaching an incredible 272 metres.
Toronto already has a unique skyline because of the CN Tower (553 metres), and with the addition of all of these new skyscrapers, our city is only going to gain more worldwide recognition in the following years.
We can’t wait to see what Toronto looks like 20 years from now - even five years from now!
