One of the key ingredients to hosting a successful party is making sure your guests feel like they have a place. If you are like me, you won’t want to miss anything at your summer gathering. When everyone has room to dine at a large table, it allows for lively conversation and interaction with guests. I love the juxtaposition pictured here. The mix of rusticness and elegance creates a space that is inviting and intriguing.

Outdoor bars are a terrific asset to the entertainer’s backyard. It makes your outdoor space more interesting and interactive. Many guests like to linger around a stand-up bar to socialize. Also, it keeps the food and drinks close for both host and guests.

The tile façade shown on this bar makes it the focal point of the space. Pattern and colour enhance interest and adds a lively vibe. If you don’t have room for a built-in bar, consider purchasing a portable one.

Fun and games

Incorporate a little healthy competition at your next get-together by adding backyard games for your guests to enjoy. This summer, increase the fun quotient in your yard with an outdoor game or two, like this putting green. When the guests leave, it can act as a relaxation tool when you are home solo. String some lights around the perimeter of your putting green, or game area, to allow activity into the wee hours of the evening.

Offer variety

If your yard is large, consider adding zones with varying elements to offer variety and interest. Breaking up your space in areas with separate conversation nooks encourages guests to travel from one zone to another throughout the night making mingling more enticing. Stretch your creativity by designing each space in a unique way with a variety of seating options and finishes.

Add a fire element

Adding a fireplace will extend and enhance your outdoor pleasure. If you don’t have the funds or the space for a permanent built-in fireplace, there are many options available for a portable one. People love to gather and chat by a fire. Turn up the heat and enjoy your backyard all evening long.

Add a water feature

If you have a large yard you may want a swimming pool to make you popular with all your friends. Small yards and even balconies can have water features, too. The reflective properties of water can make your backyard look and feel larger. A water feature also adds a focal point to your outdoor area. It creates tranquility. If you live in a high traffic area, the soothing sounds of rippling water can help drown out background noise.

With so many options available, it is easy to create an atmosphere that is unique to both your design style as well as the type of parties you host. I hope these ideas inspire you to create your perfect outdoor entertaining spots! You can discover more outdoor ideas on our Pinterest board.
