Housing Starts and New Openings are on the Rise!

The latest Trimart report highlights Canada’s surging housing starts and the numerous new low-rise site openings in March 2015. following a 17.1% drop in February 2015, March rallied strong with a 25.4% increase in national housing starts (189,700 annualized units). There was a strong recovery in urban multiple-unit starts. Ontario saw the largest jump with a 49.3% increase, while British Columbia followed closely with a 40.3% increase. Urban starts in Quebec went up 15.8% and the Prairies saw a rise by 12.9%. In addition to rising starts, there were nearly 20 new openings last month, and Trimart foresees even stronger sales over the next couple months.
Listed below are a few notable low-rise sites of the last month:
Hawthorne Village - via Mattamy Homes
Topping this week’s Trimart Hot Spots report by a landslide with 134 sales last month is Hawthorne Village by Mattamy Homes. Located in Milton, the community features a wide selection of village townhomes, two-storey townhomes, and detached homes on 30’, 36’, and 43’ lots. The homes range from, 1,044 to 3,252 square feet with prices starting from $332,990. It’s successful communities like this that have made Milton one of the most popular low-rise cities in the GTA.
Willow Glen - via Brookfield Homes
In a distant second with 25 sales last month is Willow Glen by Brookfield Homes. This Tottenham community is comprised of townhomes and 30’, 36’, 43’, and 50’ detached homes, ranging from 1,470 to 3,630 square feet. These days, townhomes have been the affordable alternative to detached living, but Brookfield is actually offering some pretty affordable detached homes with 50’ designs starting at just $544,990.
Springvalley - via Royal Pine Homes
Third place is taken by one of Brampton’s best-selling communities, Springvalley Village by Royal Pine Homes. There were 20 sales at Springvalley last month and now only a select few 40’ detached homes remain, ranging from 2,840 to 3,375 square feet. Prices start at $671,900.
Mount Pleasant Meadows - via Starlane Homes
Coming in fourth is another Brampton community with a great selection of detached homes. There were 15 sales last month at Mount Pleasant Meadows by Starlane Homes. The community offers detached designs, ranging from 1,643 to 3,183 square feet, on 30’, 36’, 38’, and 41’ lots. With a lot of detached home competition in Brampton, it’s good to see that some of the prices are still somewhat reasonable. The prices at Mount Pleasant Meadows start from just $483,900.
9130 Bathurst - via Senator Homes
Snagging the last position on the Trimart Hot Spots report with 14 sales last month is 9130 Bathurst by Senator Homes. The Richmond Hill community features a collection of townhomes ranging from 1,756 to 2,454 square feet. These luxury townhomes start at $719,990, which is around the average price for a luxury townhome in Richmond Hill.
