Hotel and Condo Project Headed to Mississauga?
By Lucas on Oct 31, 2012
As we have mentioned before at the Toronto Star’s NewInHomes.com, one of the most interesting trends in the downtown core is the incorporation of hotels in condominiums. Some of the most successful new condo projects in the city right now are the ones featuring hotels.
With the lack of affordable land in the downtown core, it’s not surprising to see that developers have chosen to develop outside of Toronto. One area that has seen a significant amount of development in the past few years is Mississauga. Developers like Davies Smith and Cityzen have played significant roles in transforming Mississauga’s downtown, and it could be argued that Amacon is making the biggest statement in the area with Parkside Village.
Mississauga does not have a condo/hotel yet, but that could change soon, as a developer is reportedly proposing one for the Square One area.
Urbanation, the authoritative source on the Toronto condominium market since 1981, reports that there are plans for an “S Hotel” on the corner of Kariya and Enfield. Not much is known about the project, but after doing some digging, we found out that the proposed hotel will be designed by Romanov Romanov Architects, which gives us a good idea of what could be headed to Square One.
The site of Kariya and Enfield has an interesting history. Currently home to an &Company restaurant/bar, it has seen a number of restaurants come and go. Although it’s hard to see a successful business go, if there is one thing that is needed in the Square One area, it’s a hotel. Currently, there is just a Novotel in the area.
What are your thoughts on this potential development? How do you feel about a hotel/condo headed to Mississauga?
