NO FLAT CITY Photo Exhibition

With six photographers, 40 large steel outdoor structures, and 72 stunning photographic images, NO FLAT CITY: Toronto’s Incomparable Terrain is Canada’s largest outdoor exhibition.
With generous support from Menkes Developments, Harbourfront Centre and Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) partnered to dispel the notion that Toronto and its surrounding areas are flat by gathering six artists to capture the city’s surprising topography and land formations.
“NO FLAT CITY, the second installment of our two year partnership with TRCA and Menkes Developments, will use the same methodology as NINE RIVERS CITY,” says Patrick Macaulay, Harbourfront Centre’s director of Visual Arts, in a media release. “This time, we’re engaging visual artist to explore the greater Toronto region and focus on the distinctive land formations and landscapes they encounter. People and their stories will be a prime focus throughout each of the theme areas which include Historic Landforms, Reshaping the Land, Living in the Landscape, and People and the Land.”
The featured artists for NO FLAT CITY are: Sarah Burtscher, Chloë Ellingson, Brett Gundlock, Brendan George Ko, Darren Rigo, and Victoria Vitasek. If you want to check out the photo exhibition, head down to Harbourfront Centre at 235 Queens Quay West in Toronto.
Last year, NINE RIVERS CITY: Toronto’s Extraordinary Waterways exhibition focused on the nine rivers running through the GTA, connecting to Lake Ontario. Toronto is always considered a lake city because of the density focused on the shore of Lake Ontario, but the exhibition presented the distinct biodiversities existing in the surrounding regions.
