Is this the Fate of Toronto?

Recently, photographer and illustrator Mathew Borrett uploaded some stunning images of Toronto on his Flickr photostream (where he goes by yonderbeam).
Borrett is an illustrator and contributor for Spacing Magazine, where he typically blogs about “interesting finds” from City Hall Archives. Borrett’s images, which will be used in the next issue of Spacing, aren’t from the past though, they are the exact opposite; they are a glimpse into Toronto’s potential future!

According to Borrett’s photostream on Flickr, the images are “made mostly with Modo, with some 3D coat and photoshop.” What we find astounding about the images, besides the fact that they were fabricated with a very skilled hand, is that the city in these images is in complete ruins, yet it looks beautiful.
The CN Tower has fallen, Lake Ontario has risen, the Rogers Centre has an impressive glass dome, and all the condos and office buildings have deteriorated. The interesting thing is that the buildings still have lights on - people will want to live in Toronto even when it has completely fallen apart!

If you look closely, you’ll see a number of boats, futuristic globe-like architecture integrated into decaying buildings, and plant life that is slowly taking over all the man-made structures. The question is, do you think that this is a positive or negative foretelling of Toronto’s future? And if Toronto were to end up this way, how would it happen? A natural disaster? Over population? Who knows! We’ll just have to wait for the next issue of Spacing to come out!
