EnerQuality is now accepting nominations for the EQ Awards!

Earlier this month, we took a look at some of our favourite sustainable designs in the housing and architecture industry that surfaced in 2015. Now, it is your turn to look back at this year and think about which firm, builder, developer, studio, or individual deserves recognition for their strides in the realm of sustainability because EnerQuality is accepting nominations for their annual EQ Awards!
EnerQuality is the country’s top certifier of energy efficient homes, so to win an EQ Award is a huge honour in the home building industry.
“Over the last 10 years Ontario’s home building industry has made enormous strides to improve the energy efficiency of new homes,” says Corey McBurney, President of EnerQuality (seen above). “Builders have worked really hard and it’s important for the rest of us to celebrate their achievements and recognize the innovators. At the same time, we are looking to the future. We are in the middle of a really vigorous conversation about where we’re going with the energy efficiency in homes. The next 10 years might be the most transformational decade ever in residential construction.”

The Building Innovation Award - Mid/High Rise is a new category, which recognizes technical excellence with regards to energy efficiency in a multi-family development. The Net Zero Builder of the Year Award is also a new category, which recognizes builders participating in the Net Zero pilot program, proving that energy efficiency can be built affordably on a community scale.
Aside from the awards, the EQ event features two other main attractions that should be very interesting this year. The EQ Housing Innovation Forum brings together industry experts to discuss ways to improve energy efficiency in home building. This year, the topic is “Next Gen Next 10,” which will focus on the future of sustainable design, the shift to higher density housing, the latest technologies, and there will also be a panel of Net Zero builders.
The EQ Housing Innovation Gauntlet was extremely successful last year. This event gives industry professionals, inventors, and innovators the opportunity to present their ideas and prototypes to a panel of judges in a Dragon’s Den-like format.
The EQ Awards will take place at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North in Richmond Hill on February 26, 2016. The deadline to nominate someone for the EQ Awards is January 20, 2016.
