A Unique Architectural Statement at a Toronto Crossroads
Located between two of Toronto’s most distinct neighbourhoods of Yonge and Dundas and Moss Park, Dundas Square Gardens condominiums, by Easton’s Group of Hotels, reflect the lifestyle and panache of a truly unique urban environment
Dundas Square Gardens will command the corner of Dundas Street East and Jarvis Street, with Yonge Street and the Eaton Centre to its west, Alan Gardens and Moss Park to its southeast, and within easy walking distance to Ryerson University. The development has been designed as an appropriate architectural response to each of these diverse areas.
The project is made up of two distinct elements: Dundas Square Gardens, a soaring 47-storey tower on the site’s western half, and the unique Garden Tower, a 16-storey tower featuring vast terraces and over 16,000 sq. ft. of rooftop, pool and garden spaces.
Dundas Square Gardens is articulated by a shifting white grid that wraps the façade. Balcony stacks interrupt the grid at key corners that terminate in a lantern element reflective of the important intersection it dominates. “The result is a dynamic changing façade that appears different from every vantage point. The lantern will become a beacon for the project, making it visible from great distances and indeed a statement in the urban context,” says Mansoor Kazerouni, Executive Vice President, Page + Steele/IBI Group Architects.
“The architectural form of the Garden Tower apartments was a result of marking a transition from the Tower to the lower buildings east of the site. This created an opportunity to reflect the ‘garden character’ of the neighbourhood and bring this important design element right into the project,” he adds.
Unique to Dundas Square Gardens is the architectural engagement of the buildings with the street. Page + Steele’s design enhances the public realm with wider sidewalks, opportunities for tree planting along Jarvis Street and an overall enrichment of the urban fabric. “Setting the ground floor frontages back, will enable wider sidewalks on Jarvis, Dundas and George Streets, resulting in the podium appearing to ‘float’ above the ground floor stone and glass façade,” says Kazerouni.
The smaller Garden Tower building will offer its residents the best of both worlds – a smaller, lower boutique building with separate elevators and entrance, but providing residents with access to the full amenities of the larger Dundas Square Gardens tower.
The five terraces are perhaps the most stunning architectural statement of the entire project. Residents can enjoy such options as hanging out at a BBQ pool party on the 17th floor terrace, taking your pet for a stroll on the 7th floor terrace, or hosting a party on the 3rd floor Garden Terrace adjacent to the two-storey Sky Lounge. The Sky Lounge will feature a grand lobby, amenity lounge and party rooms, a screening room with support spaces. This space is designed to become a focal point of not just the project, but the corner of Jarvis and Dundas.
Top quality suite finishes appointed by Munge Leung are contained within each unit, which have been designed to reflect the active, social lifestyle of its urban residents. Each suite layout is well thought through with no wasted space, flexibility in design, full access to natural light and balconies providing natural extensions of the living space.
