In Development: 90 Eglinton Avenue West
By Lucas on Oct 11, 2012
As you know, the area of Yonge and Eglinton is red hot with residential developments. It all started with MintoMidtown back in the early 2000s, and since then, developers have flocked to the area. The proximity to transit, and all the underused pockets made it a prime neighbourhood for redevelopment.
One developer that recently jumped on the re-development bandwagon is Madison Homes. They purchased the York Theatre and demolished it in order to construct The Madison on Eglinton. After its successful release last year, Madison Homes has already started the initial work on the site. As they work on The Madison, it appears that the gears are turning for another tower in the area.
Last week, the team at Madison Homes released information about 90 Eglinton Avenue West, their potential condominium next to The Madison on Eglinton. Although there is no formal information on the project just yet, the developers recently met with the locals to present what they have planned. The renderings, provided by Kirkor Architects and Planners, show a contemporary tower, with some playful cladding. The building’s most interesting aspect is the interplay between the lines on each floor, as it adds some density to the project.
Currently a non-descript mid-rise office, there is certainly potential for the site. Now it is important to remember that these renderings are simply the initial look at what could one day be. With no applications made to the City, everything you see is yet to be approved.
What are your thoughts on this initial plan? How does it fit in with the area?
