In Development: 591 Sheppard Ave. East

As you know, Sheppard Ave. West is booming. Developers like Norstar are really taking advantage of some of the area's underused pockets. Toronto's Chief Planner Jennifer Keesmaat has mentioned that the "Avenues" are key to our development, with Sheppard being one of the most important ones.
Not to be outdone, Sheppard Ave. East is starting to receive a bit more attention, as well. Recently, we profiled NY2 Condos by The Daniels Corporation - a new seven-storey condo for the corner of Sheppard Ave. and Rean Dr. Just to the west of NY2 Condos is 591 Sheppard Ave. East, which is currently a low-rise home on a large plot of land.
According to an application submitted to the City of Toronto, a new mid-rise condo project is being proposed for the site. The plan calls for a 10-storey condo, featuring 210 suites, a significant amount of retail space on the ground floor, as well as 249 parking spaces in an underground garage. There will also be a free standing place of worship on site with just under 12,000 square feet of space; this may be the first time we've seen this kind of feature involved in a condo proposal. At this point, no developer or architect has been attached to the project.
Intensifying along main subway and transit lines is key. We expect to see more developments like this in the system as developers continue to build in North York and on the outskirts of downtown.
