In Development: 155 Redpath
By Lucas on Feb 28, 2013
One of our favourite developers in the Greater Toronto Area is Freed Developments. They develop some of the most interesting buildings in the downtown core. They don't rest on their success and are always pushing themselves to raise the bar.
Projects like 550 Wellington and Six50 King West are impressive additions to the city's streetscape, while future developments like Fashion House and Sixty Colborne will soon be the same.
Freed is known for developing in the west end, but they are starting to branch out to other pockets of the city. The aforementioned Sixty Colborne will be located at the corner of King East and Church St., and as you heard in a previous blog entry, they recently purchased the Art Shoppe site in midtown Toronto for a twin tower development.
Recently, a rendering for Freed’s latest condo development, 155 Redpath, surfaced. According to an application submitted to the City of Toronto, Freed is looking to bring a new 35-storey condominium to the midtown site, featuring upwards of 470 units. The site is currently a series of low-rise homes at the southeast corner of Redpath Ave. and Roehampton Ave.
It will be interesting to see how this project is received. On one hand, there are a significant amount of low-rise homes in the area, with owners who will be concerned with shadowing and the intensification of the area. On the other hand, there are a significant amount of existing high-rise apartment buildings in the area, and a number of proposed condos.
Stay tuned to the Toronto Star's NewInHomes.com, we plan to bring more coverage of 155 Redpath as it works its way through the development process.
